Once I started this I just couldn't put it down. I love stories about mother, daughter relationships and this was just brilliant. Its a real reminder aswell of how recently segregation was still happening and how racism really affects people day to day. Some parts of the book are absolutely heartbreaking but there is a real message of hope as well and the ending is just perfect. The book is split into sections for each part of the story so you first read about Grace, then Lolo then Rae. I would have liked to learn more about what happened to Grace but I guess the fact that it's left unanswered really highlights that Rae is unlikely to get the answers she wants about her birth Mother. I enjoyed that at the end the author shared her own story and how this inspired One Blood. Its a really powerful book and a real page turner. I will definitely look out for others by Denene Miller.
