From the very first page I felt like I was there in the Grand Ballroom, the heart of The Buckingham Hotel. I loved being immersed in the culture and history of London in 1936 and the life of the various inhabitants at The Buckingham Hotel. The world of dance at this time was really fascinating and I love how Anton has captured this throughout with such detailed descriptions and a story that captured my heart. The glorious glitz and glamour shone through whilst reminding us of the scandal and secrets lurking beneath this high society portrayal.

The key characters were so vivid and each had their own back stories which throughout the novel were cleverly revealed. Some things surprised me too in a really good way. I particularly loved the esteemed ballroom dancer Raymond de Guise and also the new chambermaid Nancy Nettleton. They were really incredible and distinct characters throughout. The interlinking of the different roles and classes within the hotel was also really clever.

I would recommend everyone to step through the doors of The Buckingham Hotel. You won't forget your stay or the people you encounter within.
