A sorrowful process of mourning is immediately juxtaposed as the novel plunges into the tumbling, chaotic events of the horrific incident. It is cleverly paced with an interesting use of flashbacks to create a sense of dread and tension. Bond almost tricks reader into a false sense of security and calmness before forcing them to engage with the gruesome and unfiltered version of the night. However, the sudden introduction of a huge amount of characters, while authentic and representative of the situation, feels almost like a bombardment and requires some rereading in order to recall who is who. Overall an exciting and clearly thoughtful read but maybe requires a bit more time to delve into each character.
