A parent's worst nightmare is to hear that there's been a crash and not be able to track down your children as you frantically call them, hoping the car involved isn't the one you saw them go off in so many times before. To be sucked directly into this in One Split Second is absolutely chilling. From the getgo, you are immersed in this nightmare and are forced to live in the moment, as parents wait to hear whether they're beloved is involved.

Though this was incredibly gripping, there were a lot of characters introduced straight away, with the first few chapters being jam-packed with what happened. A large cast in a story is always good, however, this can be a little confusing early on, as some readers may struggle to keep up with who is linked with who. Hopefully, this becomes a little easier to follow with future chapters!

The only downside I saw in the excerpt was the writing style. It was very fast-paced, which works brilliantly when delivering a gripping drama, however, I'm hoping it eases as the chapters go on, to make it a little less chaotic.

I think this is the type of chilling story that'll not only keep you reading but also make you think about a few things...
