One Split Second by Caroline Bond is a story about a fatal accident and how it affects the people involved. Reading the blurb where parents are waiting for their calls to be answered by their children, I was drawn in. I am also a parent and know the horror of not being able to contact your child. The inside cover informs you that the story is about five teenagers and the consequences of the crash for them, their families and friends and the wider community. It also states it is a novel about love and loyalty, grief and forgiveness. However, I felt no emotion for the characters and felt the story was long winded. I was always expecting more as I turned the page and always came up empty handed. I liked the book cover I felt it was stunning but the novel was not for me, I prefer more action.
