One Split Second by Caroline Bond is a brilliantly written story of an accident involving a group of teenagers and the aftermath and effects on the teenagers and their families. This is a tense, heartbreaking story of sadness yet with so much courage shown by so many of those connected with the accident. The opening describes the extremely moving scene at the hospital when a patient who has failed to survive is being taken to the area for organs to be harvested for donation. In the opening chapter the news of the accident spreads quickly and it's not long before the police visit the families of those they believe to have been in the car and they are all taken to the hospital to await news. The author describes so clearly how each individual reacts to the situation and, as the book goes on, Caroline Bond displays her ability to describe every emotion her characters experience and this tale encompasses almost every know emotion, from fear to courage, heartache to joy, guilt to forgiveness.
