I was immediately involved with the story of this book. The opening is dramatic and the first few chapters really build the tension of who was involved, how seriously they were injured, the fear of their parents waiting to hear news.
I became involved in the back stories of the young people, their friendships and family relationships and i cared about what happened to them. Although the book was bleak; there was no real redemptive moment, rather a coming to terms with the grief and loss by the various people affected, the story felt resolved by the end.
I thought a bit more in depth exploration of the thoughts and feelings of the key characters would perhaps be more satisfying. The author attempts to give a lot of characters space and stories around this tragic event - I'd have preferred more depth with fewer families
