In chaos theory, the butterfly effect is the sensitive dependence on initial conditions in which a small change in one state of a deterministic nonlinear system can result in large differences in a later state.

This is true for "One Split Second", where the accident of five teenagers has imploded within their community, the fate of its population no longer travelling in one linear direction, but branched off into polar opposite directions that would take readers to the edge of their seat.

This haunting and emotionally affecting novel of love and loyalty, grief and forgiveness takes readers on an emotional rollercoaster ride as "no one escapes unscathed, but some are more deeply scarred than others and one of the group will not survive" - not even the readers.
