Has the makings of an all-nighter
The preview seemed very short but this may be because I was gripped from the beginning and read it almost in one breath. My first impression was one of confusion and contradictions. The cover seemed to suggest India rather than Italy to me although I can't pin down exactly why. The two chapters seemed to have been written by different people. I loved the first chapter with the Italian policeman discovering the body but the second chapter felt cliched; Weight loss - tick, stashed gin bottles - tick, sitting in the child's room - tick. Despite these misgivings, I was completely drawn in and very much wanted to keep reading.
