This is one of those books once you start reading you do not want to put down. Matt and Amy's youngest daughter was lost in an accident a year ago and her brother suggests getting away to Italy on a family holiday for the anniversary. Seems like a plan but this is a dysfunctional family with a lot of secrets, some large some small. There is a background of abandonment felt differently by different siblings. The author gradually reveals that memories of events in their childhood are not necessarily correct. There are also two non-family members of the party on holiday. There are disagreements and regroupings galore and you are regularly led to change your mind about what may have really happened and who was responsible. Kept me guessing until the end, a great read.
