This story is ostensibly about a family dealing with the one year anniversary of the tragic death of little Ruby-May, who died in a terrible accident the day before her third birthday. The family decide to go away on holiday en-masse and commemorate Ruby-May's anniversary together, somewhere neutral. As the holiday progresses and other family members join the group it becomes clear that there are many unresolved issues. Indeed, the number of unresolved issues and emotional damage runs deeper than first appears and slowly begin to reveal themselves. The story is told from two viewpoints: Amy (Ruby-May's mother), and Nick (Amy's younger brother), and is mostly set in the present, on an Italian island, during the family holiday. There are also occasional flashbacks. This is a well written story, with plenty of twists; a worthwhile read.
