This book deals with difficult and painful themes. The loss of a child, parental neglect, the crushing weight of grief and sexual exploitation. Largely set in a lovely holiday villa in Italy, the family gather to mark the anniversary of Ruby May's death. The unresolved issue of who is to blame cause a tense situation to become explosive.

Beautifully imagined and written. The characters are multi faceted and the plot has layer upon layer. I both enjoyed reading it and also found it an emotional roller coaster. The description of Tuscany was very realistic and it was easy to feel transported there in my imagination.

As with our real life relationships the initial impressions of the characters often changed and altered as we got to know them more.

I would thoroughly recommend this book.
