One Year Later tells the story of a family trying to cope with their grief after the death of Ruby May the day before her third birthday. The story is told mainly from the viewpoint of Amy, the mother and her brother Nick. It also moves back and forward in time so we gradually build up a picture of the childhood of Amy and her brother and sister. The family is splitting apart and Nick suggests a family holiday to try to bring them together again. The book starts dramatically with the discovery of an injured woman on a beach. It's not until near the end of the book that this is mentioned again. There are several twists and turns in the story right up to the very end. Well worth reading though quite sad.
