A great tale surrounded with grief over the death of a young girl Ruby -May one year previous . The book deals with how each member of the family deal with loss and how their relationships and blame vary throughout. Amy, Ruby's mum blames her dad for not looking after the toddler and cannot forgive and thus has a stilted relationship with him . On the anniversary of her death the family come together and a whole hosts of twists turns and secrets reveal family cover ups that have been stored for years . The tale deals with how secrets split the family up and cannot be reconciled. The story is heartbreaking and Kay portrays the anger blame and finally acceptance of the stages of grief wonderfully .
