A brilliant psychological thriller filled with twists, The story is about the tragic death of little Ruby-May Flowers (Jenkins), a year on the family decide to go on holiday to a remote island in Italy to remember Ruby-May's anniversary.

Narrated mostly by Ruby-May's uncle Nick and several chapters narrated from a third person perspective by the child's mother Amy. I thought this was an excellent way to tell the story as the reader was able to feel the emotion through the different characters and gain a different perspective. This was the first mostly male narrative psychological thriller I had read, and i really enjoyed it.

This book is so well written that I almost felt like I was on the holiday with the family, and I was completely engrossed the whole time. I think the characters are portrayed so well and it was so interesting to see how each of them handled grief in their own way. I also liked the fact that the story line wasn't far fetched and it was believable. I would definitely recommend this book! The only thing i didn't really understand were the references to The Divine Comedy, but nevertheless, still a highly entertaining read! After reading this i want to read other books by this author!
