'One Year Later' focuses on the hardship and struggles that a family faces after losing their youngest child. They all decide to go on a family holiday a year after the tragic loss, yet nothing is quite perfect. There are tensions and constant accusations alongside flashbacks to the past which help us understand the nature of Ruby-May's death. We also get a glimpse of the Flowers family's past where we learn what made them the people they are in the present. This all builds up to reveal some very shocking and tragic secrets. I couldn't stop reading as I was determined to find out what really happened. The short chapters (which I loved) were helpful in keeping up the suspense and consequently making this a fast-paced read. I don't usually read adult fiction but this influenced me to scope out more and be open to reading books outside my comfort zone. I'd recommend everyone to give this one a try!
