As the chapters alternate between the voices of the 2 main characters, we are teased with hints of what layers lie beneath the initial descriptions of Alf and Letty. Add to this a vivid backdrop of Rome, viewed through fresh, youthful eyes, the tantalising promise of romance, and beautifully-observed detail. I’ve discovered a book I really want to finish. It had me at ‘Buongiorno’.
