Letty and Alf take turns to narrate this book, which gives it an interesting, balanced perspective. The timeline switches from present to past, and back again, but without any of that confusing ‘Where are we now?’ feeling I’ve had with other books. The main characters are relatable and multi-layered, with unanswered questions to be explored and revealed.

From the beginning I was absorbed in the well-observed detail of the settings, and I particularly liked the contrasts between them. Who would have thought that Rome, Oxford and Blackpool could be so well-linked?

This has been the perfect read for these difficult times, as I’ve been able to escape into Alf and Letty’s sensory world, filled with wonderful smells, sights and sounds. It’s also one of the few books, which has ever got my feet tapping, or made me long to learn how to dance! If you are a ‘Strictly’ fan, or even (like me) if you’re not, you’ll love Only You!
