What a lovely love story with a SPOILER ALERT happy ending.

The first half of the story takes place in Rome where Alf and Lettie meet at an Italian language school and fall in love. They visit many historical locations and at times, the story must feel more like a travelogue for any reader not familiar with Rome.
Then we learn about Alf and Lettie’s past lives up to the point at which they met. Kate Eberlen is obviously very knowledgeable about ballet and ballroom dancing and manages to enthuse her readers with this. (I have now added going to see a ballet to the list of things I must do as soon as this pandemic allows!)
Lettie and Alf are such wonderful characters although both have pasts they are ashamed of. It is really uplifting to see them dancing a waltz in the open air in a Roman piazza and I then again in Covent Garden at the end of the book.
A lovely story, beautifully written.
