I’m sorry I really didn’t enjoy this book. I didn’t care about Alf or Letty, I felt like the character work was dreadful. The setting didn’t really do it for me. The plot felt aged and unrelatable, borderline unbelievable, a contemporary should be relatable. I can’t pretend to have cared what happened in the plot, I tried to care, I couldn’t. And it just felt like 400 pages of nothing. Maybe it’s just me, I’m not sure. It simply didn’t work for me. And that’s frustrating but it’s the way it is sometimes. I can’t sit here and lie about a book. Pretend it’s the best thing I’ve ever read when I dragged myself through every page and think I put myself in a reading slump. Ew. Sorry. This book was not for me.
