Can a politician write fiction, I had wondered . After reading this book, I’m still not sure.
Mr Cable certainly has the knowledge and credentials to write about the intrigues and politics of Westminster. He also has several non fictional books to his credit, but the amount of information he packed into this novel was perhaps more suited to them, as this slowed the pace down and was daunting to read. At times it felt as though we were just being given the bald facts, without any element of build up, suspence and exciting reveal.
The writing is quite simplistic and full of clichés, particularly in the opening chapter. Kate wants to become an MP- so she is voted in . I never felt that I got to know her, in fact none of the characters are developed, so I did not care about their stories or what happened to them.
I love thrillers, I'm interested in politics, I wanted to learn more about India, but for me, this book just didn't work.
