I ordered Our Chemical Hearts from Amazon as I fell in love with the simplicity of the cover and delved right into it when I had the chance.
It is a typical high school cliché boy meets girl story as you might expect. The boy meets girl combo was in the form of Henry and Grace Town. A boy who is not interested in nor has he experienced a relationship so is a good student in teachers eyes meeting grades, exceeding other classes until Grace Town enters the Drama class.
There is mystery surrounding Grace Town, Henrys raging hormones and his sidekick friends, all of these ingriedients are the making of a story that is tragic, cute, intense and a little heartbreaking too.
I really was captured by the emotions of this story, with the kooky touches of being fish parents and really feeling like school and the dramas within it really were, the end of the world. It reminded me of being a teenager again, being a little weird, spirited and definitely dramatic.
It picks upon PTSD and depression and I really connected with this from the get go. I felt every emotion and as a result I am pretty sure I had emotional whiplash.
I stayed up until 3:30am to finish this book, it was that intense I couldn't put it down.
All in all this book was beautiful, thought provoking and heartbreaking all at the same time which left me an emotional wreck by the time I reached the last page. I also loved the fact the Pyropet Candle was given a mention which instantly made this book amazing to me!
