One of those, "Why did I take so long to read this book?" .I have to admit that it took me some time to get to this book. It may or may not wait for me to pick it up around a year. But when I saw there was a movie coming, I had to just pick it up and enjoy it, and I'm so glad that I did it.
I loved Henry and Grace so much. I loved Henry's friends so much. But the story was just so freaking sad.
It was beautiful and sad and wonderful all at the same time.
“We were characters out of a movie.
We were thoroughly alive.
And we were absolutely beautiful.”
I am shocked right now! I just found out that this book is Krystal Sutherland's debut novel. This is her first novel ?! I can not believe it. This book is more than you can ask when you want to read a contemporary.
Our Chemical Hearts was a surprisingly good read for me. Going into this book, I was expecting typical YA plotlines. Having finished this read, I can say that I somehow agree, but this fact does not make me love this book any less. It actually managed to remind me about a lot of other YA contemporary books I've read and loved at the same time. I can say it's a mashup between All The Bright Places, Papertowns, Eleanor & Park, and When We Collided. But this isn't necessarily a bad thing, because at the same time it did have its touch and overall I enjoyed it!
I would definitely recommend this book if you haven't gotten tired of the same YA contemporary plotlines, but even if you have, Our Chemical Hearts still has its own charm, especially with the semi-deep discussions. I read most of it in one sitting and probably would reread it someday.
