Reading the synopsis of the book, I felt like this would be like every other contemporary fiction book I've read (e.g: The Fault in Our Stars, Everything Everything, All the Bright Places etc.) and my expectations were low, as I probably would not have picked from the shelf if in a shop, despite the gorgeous front cover. However, I loved the writing style and thought it was quite unique. I also was surprised by the choice of opening, that had me hooked from the start. As the extract went on, I enjoyed the possible foreshadowing and metaphorical comments made. It made me curious to read on and find out how the relationship between the characters develops and made me see if the rest of the book was as interesting as the first few pages here.
