This book was very “mid” for me, I didn’t love it and I didn’t hate it. I tend to fly through books but this took me a while as there were a lot of plot holes and some parts I just didn’t like or I found difficult to get through.

The main plot focuses on 8 people coming together on a country estate to fair out the Covid pandemic, away from the city and too many people. Some of the characters have previous relationships but some are new comers to the dynamic and it was good to read how they fit in with the already established friend groups and their eclectic mix of personalities.

The positives for me were the premise of the book, anything based on lockdown and the pandemic is an instant buy for me because I’m always really keen to see others take on the pandemic and whether the base of their writing is something I can relate too. I enjoyed the range of issues that were portrayed and discussed in the book such as love, friendship, betrayed, social media, immigration and racism and the variety of characters aids in this and thus the story telling without these topics feeling too forced on the reader.

The negatives were that I found some of the characters a bit empty and lacklustre, I couldn’t really relate to them or they were written in such a way that I struggled to connect and this is what had me putting down the book instead of continuing in some parts. There were also so many things left unexplored, some characters I wanted to know more about had very little attention and others I just plain didn’t like.
