When the world started to shut down a group of friends decide to wait it out at their friends writing retreat. While it is set during the Covid 19 pandemic this mostly serves as a reason for the characters to be forced together. World events are mentioned in the course of the story but little seems to affect these characters. The group are very introspective concerned with their past and relationships with each other. I found the characters very hard to like or empathise with. They have intellectual arguements and philosophise about identity and their work. The friends all have their own seperate bungalows to stay in but it feels a very claustrophobic place to be. There is a sense that something is going to happen, its a very slow moving novel and takes almost til 3/4 way through to get going. The only comic relief is the 'Actor' that joins them but even he is not particularly likeable.
