Firstly i really like the cover of this book which is bright blue with the house in a bubble which is in keeping with the story. It is a story about a Russian author who has a large house and invites a selected group of friends to come and isolate from covid-19 with him and his wife and adopted daughter in America.
He invites three of his long standing best friends, an ex-pupil and an actor he thinks might get him some more television work. It seems a very strange mix of people and at times found it hard to work out weather they actually like each other or not.
I was excited by this book as i thought it would give a good description of what people what through during the first lockdown but feel this opportunity was missed by the author.
Our Country Friends is the first book I have read by Gary Shteyngart and I don’t think I would read another by this author.
