There are elements of this book that are pleasing. Some intriguing characters, of it’s time and evocative of those early months in 2020. However, I never really got to grips with the characters, and didn’t have a strong connection to any of them. I read the book slowly, finding it easy to put down. I’m not sure I’d recommend it.
I’m sure more novels about the pandemic will emerge, perhaps something less literary would suit me better!
The book itself is pleasing, a nice cover and good reviews from some impressive people. I’m trying to persuade some friends and family to read it because I want to hear more opinions - which perhaps means that it captured my attention more than I thought. It isn’t making me seek out more books by the same author, but I am looking forward to more books about people’s experience of lockdown across the world to come soon.
