A love story, following a commuter Nadia who is watched from afar by another traveller called Daniel. It’s an amusing read but not LOL funny.
Nadia is an intelligent woman with two degrees and a high power job, however we see into the side of her life that we can all understand. The part when she was on the underground and could smell B.O. and had a secret sniff of her own armpits to check, who hasn’t done that?
Daniel is less well developed, coming across as some kind of lonely singleton with little going on in his life except a cocaine using flatmate. He comes across as a little bit too desperate and creepy to be likeable.
Although the first 30 pages were reasonably well written, I didn’t really find the characters intelligent enough or believable. I liked that the female character was successful and intelligent. But the house of cards fell down when Desperate Dan posted a message on a newspaper website stating an intention to meet the “devastatingly cute blone”. The message described how she was dressed, the coffee stain, the times that she got on the train, revealing that he had been stalking her for some time. I was surprised that alarm bells didn’t ring for Nadia, once her friend informed her of the message she gushed over her admirer. I found this hard to believe, but if you take your brain out then you could enjoy this story. Alas this isn't substantial enough for me.
