That is one way to start a book and let me tell you, it drew me in.
The setting of a tube station possibly in London emanates with many commuters who have had to make the mad dash for a nearly departing train- be it whilst holding a hot coffee so it won't spill or yourself so you won't jiggle too much on the descending race down the escalators.
The basis is both old fashioned romantic and creepy. I'm not sure how it would really go in non-story life but I doubt it would have a possible happy ending.
I think it is brilliant to 'normalise' panic attacks and not have them as literary taboos. Coming from a person with panic attacks and other mental health issues this is definitely up there for inclusion.
Overall, this sample is a good start and I want to know how it ends, desperately.
