Nadia and Daniel both catch the 7.30am tube to work. Nadia is almost always late and Daniel doesn’t have the courage to speak to her. Instead, he leaves a message in a newspaper in the ‘Missed Connections’ section and what follows, well it’s a love story for the ages.

I found this to be really enjoyable and once again Laura Jane Williams does not disappoint! I’ve been waiting to read The Lucky Escape for a while but I wanted to read this first as it had been on my TBR for ages!! It was interesting seeing how The Love Square had just the one perspective but this one had dual perspective which is always a favourite!

I felt that this rom-com certainly followed a lot of cliches and tropes but it also highlighted a lot. The main girl, Nadia, worked for a tech company which is unheard of, even in today’s society as women are typically encouraged towards English etc, rather than what are considered ‘STEM’ subjects (at least that’s how my school felt at times) so it was refreshing to see this representation. I also found Nadia relatable as well in the sense that she overthought her friendships quite a bit and I do the same most of the time – like she wasn’t invited out – but then when all was revealed, I just loved it!!

In a way, it had Beth O’Leary’s ‘Flatshare’ vibes but it still felt completely unique! The main reason I say this is because a majority of Daniel and Nadia’s communication was through notes in the newspaper! It was a refreshing unique rom-com for me as I hadn’t read a book like this before! The most frustrating thing for me was the angst purely because they became so close to meeting so many different times that I just wanted to scream at them as if they could hear me! But it also made thie first meeting so much better! The main thing I would have LOVED was if we got a bit more a relationship from them both at the end but in a way, the ending was also perfect so I just wanted the book to keep going!!

Daniel was without a doubt my favourite and there were several loveable characters (minus Lorenzo) but Daniel was my favourite without a doubt! He was romantic, he was awkward and he was open about his grief, he was on tablets since his dad died and he was seeing a therapist! So although this book was a light-hearted rom-com, I felt that there were subtle references to the fact that men also suffer from mental health as well and like I said, it wasn’t a huge theme in the book but Daniel mentioned several times how he was dealing with grief, and the fact that men seem afraid to cry and even though it wasn’t a huge representation, there’s still that representation that you don’t see often in books, for men especially!
