It hasn’t moved me enough to be a four star, but it definitely doesn’t justify a three star. Argh!

This book was good! It wasn’t exactly what I expected but there were a lot of laugh out loud moments and an infinite number of charming moments, too. The characters were sweet (particularly Daniel!), and the friendship was absolutely outstanding. Though the writing was good and the characters were enjoyable enough, I found the pacing to be a little bit lacking - for a considerable amount of the story it felt like the reader was stagnant as opposed to moving with the story; I felt that the story took a long time to go anywhere other than round in circles. But, that said, when the story moved forwards I was entirely enthralled and gripped and couldn’t stand to put it down — and those parts made the story worthwhile for me. The sections of the story wherein the budding romance was thoroughly irresistible kept me reading and frantically clawing at the next page in attempt to find out what happens next.

I felt there was more filler content than the actual romance between the characters, and when the romance actually happened it felt massively rushed and underdeveloped. It would’ve been nice to see them embark on their romantic journey instead of ending the novel at them only just sitting down together. It was a huge disappointment really because I expected to see their relationship grow as they began to get to know each other. I wanted to see more of the main characters interacting with one another but it felt more like a story of friendship; though that isn’t a complaint, it just wasn’t what I expected.

That being said, the writing was great. The author really does a brilliant job of making you nestle into the story and become one with it. I felt like I was witnessing everything along with the characters and the characters are written in a way that makes you feel as if they are your friends and to me that is truly fabulous. I also really liked the plot of this one - the concept of it has me feeling rather swoony! As a hopeless romantic, this novel really ticked a lot of boxes for me, but I just wish it had been a little more fleshed out. I would adore to read another book of Nadia and Daniel in the future! These characters, though they aren’t too great overall in this book, have a lot of potential.

Here are some quick fire thoughts:

— brilliant writing with lots of humour, satire and hilarity.
— touches on some serious topics with delicate tones; grief, depression, sexual assault and sexuality
— the couple is adorable from what we read about them towards the end
— Daniel has made his way into my “adorable male characters” shelf because he was an absolute bunny and I need to read more of him!
— it was a massive load of fun to read this!
— great summer read for those in search of a light contemporary romance without too much smut.
— fab political statements
— a very deep section about consent (which lowered the tone of the book in my opinion)

Overall I recommend it! It was a great, well written book that was a lot of fun with thoroughly appealing characters. I would definitely recommend this - perhaps to those beginning to dabble in the romance world!
