I like YA normally as it can be light hearted, but I found this difficult to get through. It felt like a bit of a slog.
Steven is a teenager, who has powers connected to his emotions which he finds hard to control (like Elsa from Frozen). He is also gay and after kissing a boy at a party his head literally exploded.
Whilst I am happy to go along with such plots some bits have to be believable - so when Freya finds out he has these powers she is still more fixated on whether he is gay or not. Really? You've just found out your mate can make it rain if they are amused and you are thinking about their sexuality?
It just seemed a bit forced.
