When I first saw this book I wasn't sure if it would be for. A YA fantasy novel isn't something I would normally read. However the first look had me hooked and I couldn't wait to see how Steven continued and how he managed to control his emotions. The boom is funny and although tackling sensitive topics that aren't common in books ( such as one of the characters being gay) the author has written it well and doesn't allow the book to become a "jokey book"
For me the book has just the right amount of humour to be lighthearted and the author has found a really good balance. I think the front cover may make it look slightly sillier than the book actually is.
The author writes the book from the 4 characters points of view which is done really well and adds a lot to the book. It was nice to see the friendship and closeness of Steven and Freya but also the others points of view
