Firstly, I really like the concept of this book. I think the idea of emotions controlling magical abilities is a fresh, original idea and made even better with our main character, Steven's, abilities being back to front.

Teenagers emotions are so up and down of course these powers cause some disastrous effects.

A unique storyline, likeable characters that you can connect with, lots of action and adventure plus a little first love romance. Overemotional has all the qualities of a good YA read.

I'm really liking the bright, fun cover for this book. However my problem with this book is that I just didn't feel the cover and synopsis went with the storyline. Classed as a wholesome adventure but in my opinion this is anything but and actually needs some content warnings. There is violence, horror as well as eugenics and pregnant women being experimented on. As well as this, Steven is still unsure about his sexuality which is so normal for someone his age, but the way his friend pressures him into labelling himself was uncomfortable reading.

Overall I enjoyed the start to this new series but it just wasn't what I had expected.
