If I could give this book more stars, I would.

I loved it. It’s brilliant. I love reading young adult fiction (or, I’d say, new adult in this book’s care) because you get such good stories. They also tend to speak of the human condition so well. This book is no exception.

Steven is 17 years old and struggling with his emotions - when he feels things, strange things happen. He has no control and when tragedy strikes and he explodes the head of the first boy he kisses, he runs away to Grunsby-on-Sea to protect everyone else.

Little does he know what that town holds for him.

He also underestimated his friends: those ties of friendship won’t just let him leave them behind. Instead, they follow him and help him unravel the mysteries of the dull seaside town he ran away to.

Fantasy, sci-fi, mystery, horror and even a little romance…but at the heart of this is a story of finding yourself, accepting who you are and of friendship; this is a story that speaks to everyone, no matter their age.

I am so looking forward to the rest of the trilogy!
