I have just finished reading the debut novel Overemotional by David Fenne. It is described in the blurb as a wholesome queer YA fantasy. The main character is 17 year old Steven who has the unique super human ability to turn his emotions into weird outcomes, literally colour, emotion, effect, known as Emomancy. Following the explosion (really!} of a boy he kisses he flees to Grumsby-on-Sea but is followed by his best friend Freya, her boyfriend Marcus and another friend Troy. The book has many twists and turns with Steven’s super powers.
The book tackles themes of love, loneliness and friendship and some aspects are very dark for a teenage targeted book. That said, it is an imaginative, creative debut which I am sure the target reader group will enjoy.
