In reading the back of this book, I thought it was going to be a little bit silly, so I was surprised how much I enjoyed it! I'm a straight female adult so am definitely not the target audience, but it was really well written (from all the characters' points of view), had nice short, sharp chapters and you couldn't tell which way the story was going to go. There are a lot of side stories running alongside the main narrative, and it was great to see Steven develop a handle on his powers. Sort of a superhero book but also a coming of age teenage romance/action book, it's hard to classify it but was really enjoyable. When I finished it, I was very glad to see it's the first of a trilogy, I'll definitely be keeping an eye open for the other two books in the series! It was clever linking past historical issues with present-day problems, and the teenage friendships were believable and likeable.
