A fantastic foray into the world of magic, fantastical mythical creatures with a little bit of science fiction there too. This book falls into a similar genre to the Percy Jackson series, and I am sure will be well loved by similar readers. It does not relate to mythology as Percy Jackson does but has mythical creatures such as the faun that is a main character. Like the Percy Jackson novels it is young teens/preteens that are the heroes. Unlike Percy Jackson, the lead character is female, Peregrine Quinn, along with an assortment of allies she is involved in a big adventure with a lot of twists and turns along the way. She has been raised mainly by her godfather as her mother has a very important position and is often away, and I loved this shows a positive side of shared parenting, and the strength of the bond she has with him as she goes in search for him. A new tackle of the age old tale of good versus evil written in a fast paced easily read way that is bound to appeal to young teens. This is hopefully the first in an exciting set of adventures with Peregrine and her cohorts.
