This is a book aimed at the younger audience but I’m sure that some adults will enjoy it too. It is a mystical read and it strikes on the theme of good and evil and that stories that perhaps are more than just stories. I can see that a series of books could develop from this first story and i think this is the first and others books are planned. I liked the portal ideas as a way to travel elsewhere and the mythical aspects that thread through the book.
The character Peregrine Quinn must use assistance to succeed and I liked the illustrations in the cover which shows other characters in the book. This has a bit of a Harry Potter feel to it, I think but there’s nothing wrong with that! I think the author would be able to cope with hype if it came this way and opened up lots more avenues for Peregrine Quinn and all those that appear along the way within the stories.
