I was really excited to delve into this book as an avid book lover. The book did not disappoint in delivering an expansive in-depth knowledge of the history of books. However, I often found this too heavy and quite daunting. It left me only able to pick up the book for a chapter at a time. It’s definitely one to dip in and out of. I was expecting a general overview of books throughout history like a chronological account. I feel the book might have benefited from this format and flowed a little better. I did not expect this to be a psychological look at book, readers and society as a whole but enjoyed this aspect very much.
I would’ve loved to have seen some pictures included as this benefits many non-fiction books but I appreciate the author gave their reasoning behind this. The imagery on the cover was minimalistic but really caught my attention.
