This book gave an incredible, in depth, well researched story on the history of books. I’m not a normal non fiction reader so I found this book a bit heavy, but I loved reading about the power of books, it makes you realise how we really couldn’t live without them! It’s not an easy read but it’s a must for anyone who is in love with reading.

Emma Smith looks at the relationship between readers and books and the world around us. Sher is very knowledgeable and writes very well, although you can’t read this book too quickly. It’s fascinating to read where the value in books comes from and how important they are in the world. It’s the first book I’ve seen that’s really tackled and researched the impact books have had on our lives, from the bible through to the kindle these days, and it was an interesting, unique read.

The 16 chapters all focus on different themes which makes it a great book to go back and read different sections again without having to read the whole thing
