For a bibliophile, what's not to love in a book about books! And this particular book offers a fresh take on the history of books, focusing on the book as a cultural object rather than on what is on the pages inside. As such, it is a perfect gift for anyone who collects and enjoys books as objects d'art. This was well researched, insightful and informative - perhaps something to dip in and out of, giving time to digest and time to savour. Well written, and well organised, it is something of a love song to the texture of beautiful tomes, the way they look on the shelves, the places they have inhabited and the meanings they have been given. In exploring the way in which we have developed the form of the book across the years, and the ways in which we have sometimes used them, we learn much about our relationship to them and wonder how they might evolve next.

It was a delight to read this, and I am sorry that due to delays receiving it and Covid the review only comes now.
