With thanks to Readersfirst for free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The opening of this book, which was presented as a ‘first look’ on the readersfirst site made me very keen to pick up a copy of this non fiction work. I’m pleased that I did as I thoroughly enjoyed dipping in and out of the chapters (which can be read in any order) and learnt a lot from the authors in-depth knowledge of books and the reader’s relationship with books. It isn’t a book I could read in one go but it is most certainly a book that I will dip into again in the future. I agree with other readers that it is, at times, a little dry and can come across a bit learned but I don’t think that is unreasonable given the depth of knowledge the author has.

If you enjoy life observation and psychology of people, plus you have some lifelong understanding of British fiction, then I’m sure you too would enjoy this book.
