love books (I used to have about 5000 around my house and have 1000 roughly on kindle) - this is about books as physical artefacts - the title from the prolific (and fine) writer, Stephen King, gives a hint of what this book's author is trying to convey - two examples which immediately sent me looking for more info- 1/ was the story about Stanley the english explorer being asked to destroy his notebooks by the Mowa tribe, because they were rightly suspicious of what information he might record there (and indeed it was used later by Belgian colonists to aid their invasion of the Congo river area - later DRC and Rwanda etc). 2/ the marvellous and surreal paintings by Guiseppe Arcimboldo- specifically, the image of the librarian. constructed out of components of books.
This tome has many other examples, and I recommend it to bibliophiles strongly.
