This cannot fail to delight any bookworm or even historian.
I thoroughly enjoyed this, it's just a veritable cornucopia of book facts and little nuggets of trivia and information.
Some of it can be very sensitive and contentious at times due to the topic matter, book burnings in Germany, the war years, modern demonstrations and book burning of banned books.
Even down to volumes covered in human skin, some of the info can give you chills.
But amongst all this weighty info we do have more light hearted topics too, books made of food, ie, cheese and slices of meat.
Book art, famous book collectors and what they and the rich and famous read.
But it even teaches us of history, the history of books as objects and our empathetic response to them as an item and what they mean to us.
Bibles, the whole history of printing and early editions, this author covers so many aspects of the book world.
This would be a very special gift for a book lover and a must have tome for bibliophiles.
