More of an academic tome

A really cozy read. This book was more academic than I expected and really went into the intricacies of books and their history. It talks about books throughout the years - the weird and wonderful and and more conventional - and how they, and their readers, have changed. I did enjoy learning about all the ways books have been enjoyed this particular text speaks about a reciprocal relationship between books and readers - how both inform and influence the other. I'd recommend it to all book lovers who want to learn about the subject of books through history, their inception, publishing methods, the actual physicality of books and their readerships but with the caveat that it is firmly a factual, non-fiction book that reads more like a research piece than a story or a creative work of non-fiction. Given the nature of the book it's probably not one I'd re-read but would be a nice gift for a book lover.
