A book about books, I wasn’t sure what to expect. What I found was a history of the reading book which was really interesting. Portable Magic tells the history of books from their earliest form to the e-book. I found the history of paperbacks and their mass marketing interesting, leading to books being readily available to everyone.

The book is interspersed with historical references which real interest. It was interesting to read about the Rare book which disappeared, sadly along with its owner on the Titanic. Although quite an academic book I did find the historical references more relatable to me. I found it The chapter on censorship was apt as we are still having our reading matter censored in the 21st century.

I thought that the cover of this book was eye catching. This is a book which will delight bookworms who want to know the history of reading.
