Seven years on from the loss of her husband, Gerry, Holly Kennedy has just about found her feet and moved on with her life. She’s even found the courage to take part in her sister’s podcast, talking about her grief as well as the letters that Gerry wrote for her to read in the months after his passing.
The first book, “P.S. I Love You” was named after Gerry’s letters, each signed off with the same message. In this sequel, after Holly takes part in the podcast she’s approached by a woman with an interest in starting a club for the terminally ill, the “P.S. I Love You Club”. The purpose of the club is to write letters, inspired by Gerry, as mementos for their loved ones. With a new man and a new life planned out, Holly’s not sure that this is the step forward she needs right now and is very reluctant to even entertain the idea.

I really enjoyed this book, especially as I have only recently read the first. It was easy to get back into the story and the characters and I sped through it all in a couple of days. I like the fact that this book covers so many themes and whilst the story gets deep and emotional in parts, there are many light, comedic moments to smile at too.
Holly, in particular, is an endearing character and one I’ve grown to love. As I said when reviewing the first book, she seems so real and she has many relatable characteristics. The other people that she helps are wonderful too, especially Ginika, a teenage member of the group. All of their stories are so emotional and heart warming, so this a truly compassionate read.
Of the two, I think that I preferred “P.S. I Love You“, but “Postscript” was still a really good read and one I’m glad to have read. I was pleased to see that at the end of the book Cecelia Ahern mentions that the ending is open, and that she wouldn’t say no to continuing this story. I look forward to seeing where Holly goes next!
