We are in the near future and set in Wilbur Smith's beloved homeland of Africa. Teenage brother and sister Ralph and Robyn live on the Crocodile Lodge Game Reserve along with their father and protecting endangered species.
Whilst out in the game reserve checking on animals, they encounter mysterious sights, sounds and events. Blood dripping from the branches of a tree; a deep wheezing rasp; the clacking and grind of powerful claws; a desperate yowling. Why is a powerful predator running for it's life? A dark shape rushing by, ground shaking, it looked wrong, unearthly.
What is going on? Why are animals from the neighbours' reserve on their land? Why was one injured? And why are they being tagged and monitored?
So many mysteries and questions; can the answers be found and at what cost? What are the ramifications?
What are the neighbours involved in? Playing God, creating modern Frankenstein's monsters or creating the unknown and much worse, even darker.
Questions, questions, always questions. I like questions, but finding the answers is even better.
High octane action, mysterious beasts and secrets tempting us to read on. I am salivating already, eager to taste more of the story, and that is just sampling the prologue as an entree. The main course is calling me, along with the dessert. A good strong coffee will probably be needed to wash it all down as the story unfolds and reveals itself, piece by piece. Delicious, I cannot wait to read it.
